Blackjack Terms

In a previous article, we gave you an extensive guide to blackjack. It turned out to be pretty interesting for our readers, so today we will make notes about blackjack terms. It’s totally worth reading, so let’s go for it.

A

Ace is the highest card in a classic deck of 52 playing cards. In blackjack it is worth one or ten points.

Ace Adjustment is when the player raises or lowers their bet. This is done based on how many aces are in the deck when the game is played.

Ace Five Count is the system of counting cards when a player, hoping to increase his chances of winning, calculates the number of Aces and Aces in the deck.

Ace Neutral Count is a system of counting cards in the game when the player makes his calculations considering that an ace is zero or is not counted at all.

Ace Poor is the name of a Blackjack deck that has fewer aces than a traditional deck.

Ace Rich opposite to Ace Poor, this is the name of a deck with slightly more aces than the traditional number.

Ace Side Count is another system of counting cards by the player, which calculates only the aces that have left the game cycle.

Action means counting the total value of one or more bets placed by a player in a defined period of time.

Anchorman in Blackjack is a player who is to the right of the croupier.


B

Back Counting is third-party counting. This is the name of the situation when cards in the game are counted not by the players themselves but by the people watching the process, to put it simply - the spectators.
Balanced Count is a specific system of counting cards. A specific Blackjack card counting system uses the following values: cards are positive or negative (plus or minus), while the sum of all cards is zero.
Bankroll - Cash. A designation of the total face value of a player's entire budget.
Bankroll Management is the play system experienced participants use and manage their Bankroll in Blackjack correctly.
Basic Strategy is called the optimal strategy in Blackjack without any calculations and card counts in the game.
A Big Player is a player who makes the largest bets.
Blackjack is the best combination of cards in a game. When a player obtains 21 points from the first two cards dealt, it is called Blackjack. The player or dealer with Blackjack automatically wins.
Burn Cards. This is the name given to the cards that ended up at the top of the deck after the shuffle. The Dealer takes them out of the game.
Bust or Break. These terms are used to indicate that a player has more than 21 points. It is an automatic loss.

C

Card Counter. It would be more accurate to say that it is a person playing Blackjack who keeps track of the cards left in the game in order to increase his chances of winning.
Cut. The term refers to an action to hinder attempts to count or calculate cards during a game. The dealer splits or "cuts" the deck before the deal, immediately after shuffling the cards.
Cut Card. That's how the dealer cuts, by dividing the deck after shuffling.

D

The Dealer is a casino employee who plays against other players on behalf of the gambling house. The term is also used in other games of chance. The dealer distributes the cards, takes bets, and if a player wins, gives him his winnings.
Deck. In Blackjack, the standard deck contains 52 cards. Often several decks are used at the table, as in Double Deck Blackjack - two decks.
Discard Tray. In Blackjack, this is a small transparent tray for discarding cards that have already left the game. It is placed in the right hand of the dealer.
Double Down is when a player doubles his original bet and gets just one additional card.
Double Exposure. The term refers to one of the variants of the game in Black Jack. The main difference between Double Exposure is that the dealer has not one but both cards open.
Draw. The term is used to ask for one more card in the game. Also known as the term hit.

E

Early Surrender. A player's decision to give up further play after the dealer has checked his cards for a Blackjack combination.
Eight Deck Blackjack literally means playing Blackjack with eight decks of 52 cards each.
Even Money translates as even or equal money. So it denotes the payment of winnings to the player in the ratio of one to one. Winnings are equal to the player's original bet.
Expectation. The expectation is defined as a percentage.

F

Face Card. In blackjack, this is the name given to jacks, queens and kings. They are all valued at ten points each.
Face Down Game. During the distribution of the first card, the player is given open - with the image up, and the second closed - a shirt up.
Face Up Game is the opposite of the previous definition which means playing cards face up. All cards from the dealer are dealt face down. Favorable Deck refers to a situation in which the remaining cards in the deck can contribute to the player's victory.
First Baseman. In the game, the first baseman is the player who sits on the dealer's left side.
Five Card Charlie is the unusual situation where the player holds five cards, but their total value is less than 21 points and the Bust or Break.
Flat Bet is a fixed or flat bet. The term refers to the bet, the total value of which is equal to the sum of the player's points for each Hand or Hand - the first two cards dealt to the player.

H

Hand. This term in Black Jack refers to the first pair of cards dealt by the dealer to each player at the table.
Hard Ace. It is a situation in the game when an Ace, received by a player in the first two cards, counts as only one point.
Hard Hand. This is how Blackjack defines a hand that has no aces at all or has a Hard Ace.
Hi-Lo Count. A game strategy in which Face Cards - Jacks, Queens, Kings, and Aces are counted as "minus one" and all other cards - from twos to sixes - as "plus one". This system is also called Plus/Minus Count.
Hit. The term is used to ask the dealer to give the player one more card.
Hole Card means a dealer's hole card. In Blackjack and, for example, in Poker, it is a card dealt face down.
House Edge is a house advantage, the house, in this case, the casino itself.

I

Insurance. This term refers to an additional bet called Insurance. It can be used by the player in a situation where the first card opened by the dealer is an Ace and, therefore, possibly Blackjack or Natural. The maximum size of such bet - half of the original - and is paid in the ratio: two to one.

L

Late Surrender. The term is used when a Blackjack player surrenders late, deciding not to continue after the dealer has looked at his second card and declared that a Blackjack hand is impossible. If a player chooses to give up before the dealer checks, this is Surrender.

M

Martingale Betting System. It is a game strategy in which a player must double his bet after losing.
Multiple-Deck. In Blackjack, this is the name of the game, in which there will be two or more decks of cards.

N

Natural. This is the second definition used to describe a Blackjack Hand when the dealer or player holds two cards totaling 21 points.
No double after Split. This is the rule in Blackjack, which prohibits doubling after splitting a pair of cards of equal value into two hands.

P

Paint. It refers to cards with a picture, such as jacks, queens, and kings. Aces are not included in this list. They are also called Face Cards-all are worth ten points each.
Pat Hand. In Blackjack, this is a lucky hand. A situation in which the first two cards dealt to a player will yield a total of 17, 18, 19, or 20 points. If the hand is 21 points, it is an automatic win. The situation is the opposite of a Stiff Hand.
Perfect Pairs. In the game this is one of the additional bets made on the chance of a pair of cards being dealt, such as Jack and Jack, Seven and Seven, etc.
Plug is when the dealer joins cards that were not used during the game to cards already discarded in the Discard Tray and shuffles them together.
Plus/Minus Count is the second name for the High Lo count. They count all Face Cards and Aces as "minus one" and all others as plus one.
Point Count is the score or counting of points. In Blackjack, this term means the total number of points at the end of the game.
Positive Count is another card counting system in Blackjack, which reveals a good number of cards in a deck with a value of ten points.
Such decks are called: Ten Rich Decks.
Preferential Shuffling. This term refers to shuffling the cards on a regular basis. The dealer uses this action as protection against various counting and card-counting schemes by the players. There is another similar method - Shuffle Up.
Push. Blackjack, the term Push refers to a draw. It is a situation where the dealer and the player have the same total number of points. In this case, the player gets his original bet back. There are two other names for the draw - Stand-off and Tie.

R

Resplit. Resplit refers to the process of splitting cards immediately after a split.
Round is a definite part of the game; it happens from the first Betting and the first deal to the moment the winnings are handed out if the player wins.
Running Count. The term refers to the start of counting cards immediately after they are shuffled.

S

Session means a period of uninterrupted play.
Shoe in Black Jack sounds like Shouse and means a small box or box for playing cards. One or more decks are placed in it and dealt from Shouse.
Shuffle is the term used to refer to the random shuffling of cards. Shuffle occurs just before the start of the game.
Soft Hand. This is the situation where the first two cards of the player or dealer do not have a hard ace, that can be 11 or one point. The opposite of a Hard Hand.
Soft Double. In Blackjack the term Soft Double refers to the situation when a player with a soft hand doubles his original bet.
Split in Blackjack is a process of splitting two cards of equal value - Seven and Seven, Jack and Jack, and so on, between two players.
The term Stand refers to a player's desire not to receive an additional card. In other words, the player is letting the dealer know that he has enough cards.
Stand-off is used in Blackjack to refer to a draw. A situation in which the dealer and the player's hands are tied. Similar to Push and Tie, when the original bet is returned to the player.
Stiff Card is an Unlucky Card in a situation where the Up Card, a card dealt face up by the Dealer, equals from two to six counts: a Two, Three, Four, Five, or Six.
A player uses a special gesture in a Surrender situation: "hand raised up". After the game stops, the player can only take half of his original bet. If a player decides to surrender after the dealer checks his second card, Late Surrender is used.

T

Table Limits. It is a table with the specified minimum and maximum bets, which a player can make in one cycle - Round game.
Ten Poor Deck is a deck that is poor in "tens". The definition or designation of a deck for the game of Blackjack containing fewer cards, worth ten points, is a ten, Jack, Queen and King.
Ten Rich Deck is a deck rich in "tens". The definition or designation of a deck for the game of Blackjack containing more cards worth ten points.
Ten-Value Card is a card worth ten points or Ten. The following cards fall under this definition: tens, jacks, queens and kings.
Third Baseman is the player at the table who sits on the dealer's right side.
Tie is a term used to describe a situation in which both the Dealer and the Player have cards of equal value. A Tie is declared, and the original Betting amount is returned to the player; also used to refer to Stand-off and Push.
Twenty One. This is sometimes the name of the game of Blackjack.

U

Unit is the term for the Number of bets placed.
Up Card is the name of the dealer's first card, which is placed upside down.
